Soaps

Our soaps at Garden of Francis are kept simple and all-natural. They come unscented and uncolored (any tint is a natural result of the soap-making process). You can use them as they are, or utilize them in melt-and-pour recipes - and we've heard of several little boys learning to whittle using our harder bars ;)
***We have recently added a facial/moisturizing bar at the high request of our customers.****

FAQ
  • What can I do with this soap?
    • *Use as-is for a variety of uses, dependent only on the oil used to create the soap: hand-washing, body-washing, shampoo bar (coconut oil with another vegetable oil), dish-washing (coconut oil is best).
  • Is this glycerin soap that I can use for melt-and-pour to create my own soaps?
    • This soap is and is not a glycerin soap. Glycerin is typically removed from store-bought soap to use in other products such as lotions, body-washes, shampoos, and other products (including food!) - producing high-lather; the rest of the soap is then sold as bars - hence that drying sensation with most store-bought bar soaps. Soaps made at Garden of Francis do not remove this precious glycerin, therefore maintain their basic moisturizing properties. We refer to our soaps as "full-body" - they withstand humidity of the bathrooms much longer than pure glycerin soaps and can be used in a variety of ways, including as-is for a shampoo even!
  • But can I use this soap for melt-and-pour?
    • Yes. It works quite similar to glycerin soaps, with typical recipes being unchanged. Lighter colors may require a touch more color, but the difference is small. Scents and other additions work much the same as with glycerin soap. The melting point is a couple of degrees higher.
  • What are the oil/fat options?
    • *Coconut oil - very hard - you'll want this in anything exposed to high amounts of water
    • *Olive oil - very soft and high-moisturizing - great for eczema and psoriasis
    • *Almond oil - some firmness; high-moisturizing
    • *Vegetable oil, general - we typically use sunflower oil, sometimes we use a combination of sunflower and soybean oils
    • *Animal fats - we are phasing out our use of animal fats - we only have lard on hand, which produces a very hard bar of soap
    • *Other oils upon request
